Couples Sunday

Home, working. To clean my hard drive (aka my brain) I take brisk walks down through Brookline Village and back, about 20 min. in all. Sometimes I'm even smart enough to throw the 5D over my shoulder (spoiled by my smartphone lately :-) ).

These were all real quick grabs, and I was amused to find when I got home that of the handful of frames, almost all of them were of pairs of people.

On my way out the door to do afternoon errands, I came upon, within thirty seconds of each other, two of my neighbors, Leon and Dennis, and was thrilled when each of them graciously allowed me to grab a quick portrait in the gorgeous light of the vestibule of our building, and even happier with the results.

Boston's 115th Marathon, April 18th, 2011

On one hand, if you've seen one Boston Marathon, you've seen them all - and since my apartment is smack on the race route, they're hard to miss. On the other hand, this event is a real tear-jerker. I live at Mile 24, and at this point on the route, what we are witnessing is sheer determination and strength of human spirit.

Nothing earth-shattering here, photographically - I had a lot going on yesterday (excuses, excuses) so I was mostly in and out of my apartment, tending to things at home for a while, then running back out for a few more shots. I am pleased, however, that I ended up with a shot of the marathon's victor (and record-breaker), Geoffrey Mutai, from Kenya.

I think next year I'll walk downtown to be closer to the hoopla at the finish line.

Walk to Haymarket via Fenway, Opening Day

On Friday, a pleasant April day - not too hot, not too cold - desperately needing to get my head out of my computer, also badly in need of some physical exercise - I decided to just head down Beacon Street and keep walking. I had Haymarket in mind - Boston's historic, open-air market that runs every Friday and Saturday - but was not sure whether I would walk the whole thing or jump on the T for part of it. I did end up walking - down Beacon, with a stopover at Fenway park (with opening day festivities in full swing); continuing down Commonwealth, through the public gardens and over to Charles Street, where I stopped for a slice of pizza at The Upper Crust. From Charles Street, I worked my way past MGH, the Old West Church, and through Government Center to Haymarket. Kind of a long walk for my first day out, but I loved it. On my way home, I made it as far as the Arlington Street T stop, where I hopped on and rode the rest of the way. This was a great day - just what the doctor ordered (and a major element of this walk/shoot therapy, of course, involved my being plugged into my iPod for the majority of the afternoon, providing myself with my own soundtrack - a shuffled mix - and tuning out the garbage.
